RICK SHARP — Rick began playing the trumpet at the age of nine in the Riverview Gardens School District. By high school he was the first chair in the band. He kept it up in college at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. After graduation, Uncle Sam called, so Rick enlisted in the Army Band, and served a tour of duty in Germany. When he was discharged he looked around for somewhere to play. In less than a year he received a call to play with Gateway. That was in 1974 and he has been with them ever since.

Rick was lead trumpet for 20 years, then moved out front to lead the band.  He and Musical Director Stan Minor now trade off leading jobs so they can also enjoy playing in their sections.

By day Rick is a Senior Vice-President of First National Bank of St. Louis.  He has one son, Doug, and one granddaughter, Annemie. Doug is currently a Second Lieutenant with the United States Army working in Military Intelligence. Rick was the band treasurer for many years, putting his day job experience to good use, and in February of 2008 became President of the band.

In February of 2005, Rick and trombone section leader/vocalist Karen Kelly Sharp were married.
